I am "throught" the introduction as well. I found it to be a little on the long side. I am optimistic that the rest of the book will compensate for the long intro. Cunnian out.

I've just finished reading the first chapter and have a few thoughts....

The summation of the research and perceptions surrounding boys and literacy was interesting, but I agree that with the others that it is not exactly a page turner. I think that is why this book has used a lot of personal anecdote and invdividual case study - make for research that is more engaging, more real.

The "myth" of masculinity - contradicts the biological research that says boys can be "significantly" damaged by schools that try to subvert "natural male behaviour". I wonder if the disparity in the literacy of boys and girls is partially due to the fact that reading is perceived as girlish behaviour.

I sort of laughed at The War Against Boys argument that boys are oppressed by femenist approaches in schools.

I liked the idea that this book, and other research based books provide a starting point for teachers.
